SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--China National Blue Star Corp subsidiary Harbin Petrochemical has started producing small quantities of phenol/acetone from its expanded unit, a company source told ICIS news on Wednesday.
The company expanded its 45,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone unit in Harbin, Heilongjiang province to 120,000 tonne/year in October, and the plant has been on trial runs since then.
A second company source said it could be difficult to properly start up the plant due to the cold weather in Harbin, but added that commercial production should start before the end of the year.
Some of the 75,000 tonne/year output will go to parent Blue Star Corp for their captive consumption, while a portion would be sold in the spot market.
Harbin Petrochemical also produces 5,000 tonne/year of maleic anhydride (MA) and 30,000 tonne/year of phthalic anhydride (PA).
