SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--China Petrochemical Development Corp (CPDC), a Taiwanese chemicals company, has shut its caprolactam plant at Kaohsiung for a scheduled 20-day turnaround, a company source said on Tuesday.

The 170,000 unit was shut on 25 December for the maintenance shutdown. CPDC's 85,000 tonne/year caprolactam plant at Toufen, Miaoli Country, will be shut from 8 February for 20 days for a scheduled turnaround, he added.

The shutdowns are not likely to affect supplies to the company’s contract buyers, although spot supplies would be restricted, said the source.

Spot caprolactam prices plunged to $1,600/tonne CFR Northeast Asia (NEA) in end- November, before rebounding to $1,800-1,825/tonne CFR NEA in recent weeks on the back of stronger feedstock benzene and improved downstream demand from the nylon textile chips sector.
