LONDON (ICIS news)--European fourth quarter engineering plastics contracts were settled higher this week by an average of Euro0.05/kg for polyacetal (POM) grade and Euro0.10-0.15/kg for polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), buyers and sellers said on Wednesday.
Producers were able to implement increases on the back of an overall rise in energy costs and feedstock prices.
The POM natural grade Q4 price range was established at Euro2.60-3.05/kg. In the PBT market, the Q4 price ranges for filled, unfilled and flame retardant grades settled at Euro2.75-3.20/kg, Euro2.70-3.05/kg and Euro3.25-3.75/kg respectively.
A number of market sources emphasised that the automotive sector was a major driver for higher prices in Q4. Reflecting on Q1 price developments, sellers noted that raw material costs are likely to be the focus for price developments in the engineering plastics markets.
