MOSCOW (ICIS news)--The benzene spill from the explosion at China's Jilin Petrochemical plant has passed Russia's major Far Eastern urban centre of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said on Friday.

The ministry said that 83 water samples had been taken in the past 24 hours. Despite the slick's arrival, benzene pollution levels in the Amur River near Komsomolsk remained below permitted levels, according to the statement, and it was not expected that the municipal water supply system would be turned off.
