DEGUSSA Homogeneous Catalysts (DHC), an internal start-up company of Degussa AG, has launched catMETium IMesPCy, a high-performance metathesis catalyst for the pharmaceutical market. The product is an alkylidene ruthenium complex with an N-heterocyclic carbene ligand which is known for catalyzing high performance chemical reactions. Degussa says there is a strong demand in the pharmaceutical market for these powerful reactions to create solutions to the challenges posed by synthetic chemistry.
GLAXOSMITHKLINE has received Food and Drug Administration approval for Avandaryl (rosiglitazone maleate and glimepiride), a new fixed-dose combination drug for Type 2 diabetes. The company has already launched the product, which is the first and only tablet to combine Avandia (rosiglitazone maleate) and Amaryl (glimepiride).
MERADEX Inc. has entered an agreement to develop therapeutic antibodies against a wide range of disease targets with Organon, the human health care business unit of Akzo Nobel. Financial terms were not disclosed.
