HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US production of phenol fell 1% to 738m pounds in the fourth quarter 2005 compared with the third quarter, said the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) on Friday.

The second quarter was the highest producing period of the year, with 815m pounds. Total phenol produced in the US for 2005 was 3.084bn pounds. There was no data available for 2004.

Producers said US phenol operating rates were at 75-80% in December due to weak conditions in the downstream bisphenol A sector.

The NPRA phenol production data was collected from Dow, Shell and Sunoco.
