Dow Chemical’s president and ceo, Andrew Liveris, has signed the Responsible Care Global Charter, which now has more than 80 signatories. ‘Responsible Care is an ethic and a commitment that seeks to build confidence and trust in an industry that is essential to improving living standards and quality of life’, said Liveris.
The United Nations Environment Programme has launched an international effort to green the building and construction sector. The initiative is backed by founding members of the Sustainable Building and Construction Initiative (SBCI), which aims to promote environmentally friendly construction practices across the industry. The wide-ranging initiative will look at many issues including energy consumption, design, waste, recycling and environmentally friendly materials.
Clean Diesel Technologies of the US is introducing integrated urea dosing units into Europe. These work with existing selective catalytic reduction systems (SCRs), enabling the automotive sector to achieve NOx emission reductions as required under EU legislation. Clean Diesel’s urea dosing unit represents Europe’s first commercially available fully integrated, airless urea injection tool. Based on the company’s Advanced Reagent Injector system, it is targeted at the growing retrofit and original equipment automotive markets across Europe. SCR has become the technology of choice to ensure compliance with Euro 4/5 NOx reduction levels.
