Lanxess sheds paper and fibre businesses

German group Lanxess said last week it would complete the sale of its paper chemicals business to Finland’s Kemira by 1 April, after antitrust authorities approved the transaction. In addition, Lanxess concluded last week the sale of its Dorlastan fibres business to Japan’s Asahi Kasei Fibers. Both transactions were announced at the end of last year.

Patriciu steps down after suspension

Romanian oil tycoon Dinu Patriciu has stepped down from the board of The Rompetrol Group. The company was suspended from trading on the Bucharest stock exchange for alleged financial wrong doing last Friday. Mr Patriciu said: ‘I no longer have any executive position in Romania, in order to protect the interests of our employees, shareholders and partners.’ Prosecutors in Romania made allegations of financial impropriety against Patriciu.

Air liquide planning 160 new R&E jobs

Air Liquide plans to create up to 160 research and engineering jobs in Glasgow, Delaware, US, after receiving a grant of €400 000 from the state development agency. A spokesperson for Air Liquide said the facility should open during 2007.

Patent office rules against us Infeneum

The Associated Octel Company has won its appeal against a patent registered by American firm Infineum. The European Patent Office ruled that Infineum’s patent was non-inventive and must be revoked.
