TABLE: Strong bioethanol demand fuels expansions

LONDON (ICIS news)--A stream of companies is planning bioethanol projects across the globe, as environmental regulations drive up demand growth forecasts for the biofuel.

The European Commission (EC) is promoting the addition of biofuels to motor fuels in a ratio of 5.75% in the European Union (EU) by 2010, while in the US the 2005 Energy Policy Act provides incentives for the ongoing development of bioethanol.

The opening of the UK’s first domestic E85 ethanol pump last week was hailed by traders as proof that the market was moving in the right direction. The opening of the pump, which will deliver a blend of 85% bioethanol and 15% petrol, coincided with the first deliveries of the Saab 9-5 BioPower flex-fuel car.

Below is a table of bioethanol projects reported recently by ICIS news. A more complete list of ethanol projects can be found in the projects section of Plants & Projects of ICIS.com.
