SAN ANTONIO, Texas (ICIS news)--The Basell-Saudi joint venture 1.3m tonne/year Tasnee cracker at Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia was expected to come on-stream in late-2008 or early 2009, a senior official involved in the project said on Monday.
"The project is underway and we have already ordered long lead items," Volker Trautz, chief executive of Basell said at a news conference at the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association's International Petrochemical Conference.
Tasnee Petrochemicals is co-owned by a consortium made up of Saudi Petrochemical Sipchem, Sahara Petrochemical and Basell.
In addition to the cracker, the project will also include a 400,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (hdPE) plant and a 400,000 tonne/year low density (ldPE) unit. The hdPE and ldPE plants will be based on Basell's Hostalen and Lupotech T process technologies, respectively.
Propylene from the cracker will be used to feed Saudi Polyolefins planned polypropylene expansion to 650,000 tonne/year from 450,000 tonne/year.
