LONDON (ICIS news)--BASF is to build a new production plant at Ludwigshafen for the plastic intermediate cyclododecanone, the company said on Tuesday.

Output from the plant, which is due onstream in 2009, has been contracted mostly to Swiss specialty chemicals company Ems-Chemie for the manufacture of laurolactam, an intermediate used to make polyamide 12.

BASF declined to quantify the capital investment in the new plant or the planned annual capacity. It will be the German chemical major's first cyclododecanone plant.
