SINGAPORE (ICIS News)--Mitsui Chemicals, the Japanese major, restarted its phenol-acetone unit in Ichihara, Chiba prefecture, on schedule on Saturday after a seven-week shutdown for maintenance and expansion work, a company official said on Monday.

The plant has started producing on-spec material, and is now operating at 90% of the old capacity of 260,000 tonne/year, he added. The company hopes to operate the plant at the new capacity of 308,000 tonne/year by mid-June.

ICIS news had previously reported that the restart date could have been pushed back by about a week due to a possible delay in the mechanical completion of the debottlenecking project.

In addition to this facility, which is co-owned by Idemitsu Kosan, Mitsui operates another two phenol-acetone plants in Japan and one unit in Singapore.
