SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--China has imposed antidumping duties of up to 46.81% on catechol imports from the US and Japan, the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) said late on Monday.

The duties, which took effect on Monday, will be in place for five years.

The MoC launched an investigation into imports from the two countries on 31 May 2005 after receiving a petition from domestic producers.

The levy for French company Rhodia's US subsidiary is at 4% while other American companies have to pay a duty of 46.81%. Japanese companies have to pay a levy of 42.86%.

In an earlier ruling, the MoC increased antidumping duties on catechol imports from Italy’s Borregaard Italia to 41% from 27%, while the levy for all other EU importers remains unchanged at 79%. Duties on European producers are in place until August 2008.

Catechol is used to produce dyestuffs, specialty inks, antioxidants and light stabilisers.
