DUBAI (ICIS news)--Saudi Arabian petrochemicals major Sabic is looking to bolster its presence in Egypt as it opened an office in Cairo on Wednesday.

“Sabic has sought to deepen its relations with the consumers of its products in the Egyptian market through the establishment of this office…”, chairman Prince Saud Ibn Abdullah Ibn Thunayan Al-Saud said in a statement.

The company hoped to establish industrial investments as well as boost its marketing presence in the North African state.

Al-Saud said Sabic's production network in Saudi Arabia was made up of 19 manufacturing complexes with a total capacity currently exceeding 51m tonne/year of petrochemicals, fertilisers and steel.

The company is currently implementing a series of expansion programmes designed to achieve a total capacity of 64m tonnes/year over the next two years and a  massive 100m tonnes/year by 2015.

Sabic has additional production facilities for polyolefins and chemicals in the Netherlands and Germany, and is focusing on Arab industrial integration through its participation in three petrochemicals and aluminium manufacturing complexes in Bahrain.
