SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Wuxi Xingda New Foam Plastics Materials (Xingda), a major supplier of expandable polystyrene (EPS) in eastern China, shut its plant on Thursday on a shortage of feedstock styrene monomer (SM), a company source said.

Xingda's 300,000 to 360,000 tonnes/year unit in Jiangsu province was running at 100% prior to the shutdown, amid firm demand for EPS resins. The unit will be brought back online on Monday as the company expects to receive SM supply over the weekend, the source said.

Chinese spot prices of packaging EPS rose to around CNY12,000-12,200/tonne ex-works after the Chinese Labour Day holidays in early May, from CNY11,400-11,450/tonne ex-works prior to the lull, enabling domestic suppliers to sell the resin at an acceptable margin.
