LONDON (ICIS news)--Spot toluene prices in Europe hit a record high on Wednesday, with deals at $930-935/tonne, traders reported.

In rapid succession on Wednesday morning spot deals were reported at $912/tonne, $915/tonne, $930/tonne and $935/tonne free on board (FOB) Rotterdam for June. The deals were said to involve a major producer, various traders and brokers.

The previous record of $900/tonne was set on 17 May and no spot deals have been confirmed since then, according to global chemical market intelligence and price reporting service ICIS pricing.

It is still the pull into the US gasoline pool which continues to dominate the European toluene spot market, traders said.
