Formosa Chemical and Fibre Corp (FCFC) will invest $162.5m to build a purified terephthalic acid (PTA) line at its Lungte plant in Yilan County, northeastern Taiwan.

The facility will produce 300 000 tonne/year of PTA or 150 000 tonne/year of purified m-phthalic acid when it comes onstream at the end of 2007.

FCFC expects to reach a total PTA production of 1.9m tonne/year by the end of 2007.

FCFC will also complete the construction of styrene monomer (SM) and polystyrene (PS) units at Lungte by the end of this year. This will raise its SM production to 1.2m tonne/year and PS production to 320 000 tonne/year.

In the Yunlin County, FCFC hopes to complete the construction of a third aromatics plant by March 2007, rasing its total aromatics production to 3.1m tonne/year. FCFC has a cracker and petrochemical complex in Mailiao, in the Yunlin County.
