Japan's May car output up 3.5% on-year

TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s May vehicle production rose 3.5% compared to a year before, the seventh consecutive month of increase, said the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association.

The country produced 686,421 passenger cars, 6.3% or 40,429 more than in May 2005, it said on Thursday. Production of standard cars (over 2,000 cc) rose 13.9% to 338,989, small cars decreased by 1.6% to 239,390, and mini cars (under 630 cc) were 2.7% higher at 108,042.

Production of trucks fell 10.3% to 121,571, while that of buses rose 22.6% to 6,654.

Japan’s vehicle exports rose for the tenth consecutive month, up 22.3% from a year before to 459,259. Passenger car exports rose 27.4% to 409,185.
