BASF has completed the $470m acquisition of Johnson Polymer, a US water-based resins manufacturer. The deal, which includes Johnson’s sites in the US and the Netherlands, was completed on 1 July after approval by antitrust authorities. BASF will incorporate the business into its performance chemicals division.
HB Fuller is seeking acquisitions in the adhesives segment, says chief executive Albert Stroucken. The US group plans to grow its adhesives business, following its recent purchase of Henkel’s insulating glass sealant business and most of the assets of Roanoke Companies. HB Fuller reported flat second-quarter revenues at $388.5m.
US chemical officials hailed the vote by the US House of Representatives to open offshore regions to oil and gas development. Jack Gerard, president of the American Chemistry Council, says the vote was one of the most important of the past two decades. ‘Affordable energy is inextricably linked to America’s economy, jobs, competitiveness and security,’ adds Gerard.
Kali und Salz (K+S) has completed the purchase of Chilean salt producer Sociedad Punta de Lobos. The German fertiliser and salts group paid just under €385m for a 99.3% stake in the company, or €365m after deducting acquired debts.
