Degussa looks for August increases

Degussa is attempting to raise prices in Europe for all its Dynapol L, Dynapol LH, and

Vesti­coat UB brand coating polyesters. From 1 August, the prices will be increased by ¤70–200/tonne, depending on the specific product. The hikes are because of higher feedstock costs, which have increased on the back of tight supply.

SM marketing deal

The Plaza Group has signed a multi-year agreement valued at more than $30m to market a styrene monomer produced at Total’s Cosmar, Louisiana, US, facility. The company already ­markets solvents and intermediates for Total.

ECH duties imposed

China has imposed anti-­dumping duties of 3.8–71.5% on epichlorohydrin (ECH) imports from Russia, South Korea, Japan and the US, said the Ministry of Commerce. The duties took effect on 28 June and will be in place for five years. An inquiry showed that imports from these countries had hurt Chinese producers.

japan output down

Japan’s chemical output fell a seasonally-adjusted 0.5% in May compared with the previous month according to Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry figures. In actual production terms, ethylene output fell 6.5% to 588 303 tonnes in May against the preceding month, down 5.7% on the same month last year. Propylene production was up 2.3% to 466,751 tonnes in May month-on-month and down 5.2% year-on-year.
