Ineos restarts C6 lldPE plant at Grangemouth

LONDON (ICIS news)--Ineos’s 350,000 tonnes/year C6 linear low density polyethylene (lldPE) plant at Grangemouth, Scotland was coming back on line on Monday after ethylene was put into the system over the weekend, a company source said.

Production at the site had been down since 7 June, when the company’s 725,000 tonnes/year cracker went down unexpectedly.

The company has been able to supply its customers from stock and expected to meet its contractual customers’ needs throughout July, but there would be no product on offer to spot buyers. The cracker was not expected to reach full output for some time.

Ineos’s 200,000 tonnes/year low density polyethylene (ldPE) line at Cologne in Germany remained out of action after an incident on 3 July and was expected to remain down for at least four weeks. The second line with a capacity of 150,000 tonnes/year was not affected by the incident.

Both low and linear low density polyethylene prices have been stable so far in July despite producers’ attempts to increase them.
