The plants would be constructed at the Ras Az Zawr minerals industrial city for the Maaden Phosphate Project, said Abdallah Dabbagh, president and chief executive officer of Madden, in a statement.
The plants would produce 9,000 tonnes/day of diammonium phosphate (DAP) in total, making it one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world, said the company.
They would be designed to increase production to 10,000 tonne/day of DAP, enabling higher fertiliser production at the Ras Az Zawr fertiliser complex.
Construction work would take place over the next 34 months and commercial production is scheduled for May 2010, said the company.
The Ras Az Zawr mineral industrial complex is a Riyal30bn investment that would include the Maaden Phosphate Project, and the Aluminium Project with an alumina refinery, a smelter, a power plant, and a port on the
Maaden was established as a Saudi Arabian joint stock company in March 1997.
