SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--PTT Pcl, the Thai energy major, and Toyota subsidiaries in Thailand are to spend Baht32m ($843,088/Euro663,563) in a joint study of the development and use of biodiesel in the country, PTT said on Thursday.

The company signed a memorandum of understanding with Toyota Motor Thailand, Toyota Technical Centre Asia Pacific (Thailand) and Kasetsart University on the two-year project.

The research would determine the best species of jatropha seeds to be used to produce biodiesel, look at the processes available and assess the use of the fuel in engines.

It would also find out if the planting of jatropha could lead to any economic and social impact, said the company.

The university will conduct research and development on jatropha and biodiesel production while PTT will conduct fuel quality tests. The Toyota companies will provide equipment for the research such as trucks and engines, PTT added.
