Six Iowa biodiesel plants under construction

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Six biodiesel facilities are under construction in Iowa, the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) said on Thursday.

The plants include:

* Clinton County Bioenergy in Clinton - 10m gallons/year capacity;

* Tri-City Energy in Keokuk - 5m gallons/year capacity;

* Riksch Biofuels in Crawfordsville - 10m gallons/year capacity;

* Freedom Fuels in Mason City - 30m gallons/year capacity;

* Central Iowa Energy in Newton - 30m gallons/year capacity; and

* Iowa Renewable Energy in Washington - 30 m gallons/year capacity.

The IRFA said the Clinton County Bioenergy site was furthest along in construction, with production start-up anticipated by end-2006. Tri-City Energy and Central Iowa Energy also might be able to meet start-up requirements by the end of the year, sources said.
