LONDON (ICIS news)--Foskor, the world’s leading phosphoric acid producer, expects to be producing export quality product from its older, fire-hit plant at Richards Bay in South Africa by the end of the week, a company spokesman said on Monday.

The plant was brought to a standstill on 7 May when a fire damaged a transformer. The unit was restarted at the beginning of July and testing has been taking place following the plant’s recommissioning.

Foskor has two plants at Richards Bay on the east coast of South Africa; the older plant, comprising two units, and a new plant. The combined production capacity of the two plants is 750,000 tonnes/year.

Foskor had planned to produce 690,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid in the financial year to end-March 2007. In 2005, production totalled 625,000 tonnes against 575,000 tonnes in 2004.
