SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Advanced Biofuel Technologies, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sesdaq-listed Advanced Holdings, has received government approval to develop a biodiesel project in Malaysia, the company said on Friday.

The proposed production capacity is 100,000 tonnes/year, with crude palm oil and refined, bleached and deodorized palm olein as its main feedstocks.

The company said the project is a move to become an integrated provider of process technologies, equipment and services in the areas of clean fuels and biofuels in the region.

This follows the Malaysia parliament’s decision to make a mandatory switch from petrol-based diesel to biodiesel blends after the tabling of the Biofuel Bill in June 2006.

The company said it has identified several potential strategic partners and is in the midst of discussions. In the meanwhile, it could not comment on the cost and startup date for the project.

“This rapidly growing demand for biodiesel worldwide including Asia Pacific will fuel the construction of many biodiesel plants in Asia. Advanced is well positioned to be a significant player in this growing market.” said managing director Kar Wong.
