Monsanto gets delta and pine land

Monsanto is buying US cotton seed company Delta and Pine Land for $1.5bn. Monsanto first announced plans to purchase the Scott, Mississippi-based company in 1998 but later withdrew, prompting a legal dispute. 'Delta and Pine Land has strong cotton genetics, and we believe Monsanto's leadership in providing the best cotton traits can improve on this already strong base,' says Monsanto chief executive Hugh Grant.

Argentina eyes extra gas feedstock

Argentina's drive to increase the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) could ease pressure on natgas supplies for the chemical industry, says an official at the Argentine Chamber of the Chemical and Petrochemical Industry. The Argentina Compressed Natural Gas Chamber is negotiating to expand the nation's gas pipeline network.
