SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Global Bio-Diesel, a subsidiary of South Korea’s ECO Solutions, plans to set up a 300,000 tonnes/year biodiesel unit at Malaysia’s Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) in Lahad Datu, Sabah, POIC Sabah said on Wednesday.

Global Bio-Diesel had earlier signed a sales and purchase agreement for 33.45-acre site at POIC, on 7 August 2006, the Malaysian government body said.

The South Korean company was the third investor to sign the agreement with POIC Sabah, supporting the Sabah government in its effort to make POIC Lahad Datu the palm oil hub of the region.

Construction of the plant is expected to start next month while production is due to start by end 2007. The company is expected to export most of its products to South Korea.

Kwantas has been contracted as the sole provider for its main feedstock of refined, bleached, and deodorised palm oil. The technology will be provided by the Desmet Ballestra Group, POIC added.

The cost of setting up the unit was not disclosed.
