SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mitsui Chemicals plans to shut the last of its three phenol-acetone units in Japan for a month-long turnaround at the end of October, a company official said on Tuesday.

Asia’s largest phenol-acetone producer will shut the plant in Ichihara, Chiba prefecture, from 29 October until 2 December. The facility can produce 190,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 104,000 tonnes/year of acetone.

Its other plant in Chiba, co-owned by Idemitsu Kosan, was restarted on 6 May after a seven-week shutdown for maintenance and expansion works. It has a nameplate phenol capacity of 230,000 tonne/year and acetone capacity of 80,000 tonne/year.

Mitsui also resumed operations at its 320,000 tonnes/year phenol-acetone unit in Osaka, Japan, on 3 August after a month-long maintenance shutdown.

Phenol spot prices were stable at $1,280-$1,340/tonne CFR China last week, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
