SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Formosa Petrochemicals Corp (FPCC), will shut its No 1 cracker on Wednesday as scheduled for a 40-45 day turnaround, a company source said.

The cracker, located in Mai Liao on the east coast of Taiwan, is the country’s second largest cracker and produces 700,000 tonnes/year ethylene and 500,000 tonnes/year propylene.

FPCC’s No 2 900,000 tonnes/year cracker located in Mai Liao was running normally while the new No 3 1.2 million tonnes/year cracker will be started by the first quarter of 2007, market sources said.

The impact of the No 1 cracker shutdown on the ethylene spot markets is expected to be limited as downstream vinyls and polymer plants which are integrated to the cracker will also be shut during this period, they added.
