MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Belarus produced 2.7m tonnes of potash in the first eight months of this year, down 20.6% on the year-earlier period, the Belarus statistical agency said on Monday.
However, in August Belarus produced 480,000 tonnes of potash, 10.4% up month-on-month, it said.
Overall mineral fertiliser output from Belarus in January to August amounted to 3.3m tonnes, 16.6% down on the corresponding period last year, the agency said. Nitrogen fertiliser output was up 6.7% at 500,000 tonnes and phosphate fertiliser production rose 8.8% to 100,000 tonnes.
In 2006, Belarus planned to export 4.36m tonnes of potash, but in January-April this year exports were 25% down year-on-year due to a price dispute with Chinese importers.
Last July, the Belarus Kalium Company (BKC) said it agreed with Chinese importers on continued potash sales. Belarus plans to supply up to 1.7m tonnes of potash to China by the end of 2006 at $190/tonne.
