TOKYO (ICIS news)--Mitsui Chemicals is building a new nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) plant at the site of its 100% subsidiary, Shimonoseki Mitsui Chemicals, in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi prefecture, a spokesman for the Japanese company said on Friday.
The construction of the plant had begun in early September, and it was scheduled to start commercial operations in September 2007, he added.
The spokesman declined to give the capacity of the new plant, but said that the company currently produced 750 tonnes/year of NF3 at Shimonoseki Mitsui and 150 tonnes/year at its American subsidiary, Anderson Development.
The product is used for liquid crystal displays (LCD) and as a cleaning agent for semiconductors, he added.
