HOUSTON (ICIS news)--DuPont said on Tuesday it will grow its biofuels business by commercialising biobutanol as a biofuel, supplying new technologies to convert cellulose, and developing products that enable greater biofuel production/acre.

“DuPont is delivering advantaged products and technologies throughout the biofuels value chain,” said John Ranieri, the company's biofuels vice president and general manager.

“To address the energy issue, we must develop sustainable business and technical solutions that can be adapted across different geographies to successfully grow this industry,” Ranieri said at a Citigroup ethanol conference in New York City.

Pioneer Hi-Bred International, a DuPont subsidiary, is undertaking a programme of seed and crop protection to improve the efficiency of ethanol production, the company said in a news release.

In cooperation with the US Department of Energy, DuPont is funding a four-year research programme to develop technology to convert cellulosic crops into biofuels.

In a partnership with BP, DuPont is working to develop biobutanol is based on its strategy to bring to market advanced biofuels that can expand the transportation biofuels offering.
