SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Nan Ya Plastics has postponed the startup of its 700,000 tonnes/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant at Mailiao, Taiwan by about three months due to delivery and mechanical issues, a company source said on Friday.

“Some parts have yet to be delivered and more mechanical issues would need to be ironed out,” said the source, who confirmed that the new startup date would be April 2007.

Nan Ya, Taiwan’s largest MEG producer, had originally planned to start up the unit in January 2007.

The company, part of the Formosa group of companies, operates three lines at Mailiao, with a combined capacity of 950,000 tonnes/year. One of them, a 300,000 tonnes/year line, is co-owned by another Taiwanese company, China Man-made Fibre.
