US safety board to disclose new BP blast findings

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--The US Chemical Safety Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) will disclose on Tuesday its latest safety recommendations and preliminary findings from the March 2005 explosion at BP’s refinery in Texas City, Texas, the board said on Thursday.

CSB chairman Carolyn Merritt and lead investigator Don Holmstrom will release the recommendations and findings at a press conference in Houston.

The blast at the 460,000 bbl/day refinery killed 15 workers. The CSB said it had already issued recommendations for BP to examine its safety culture and for the relocation of of trailers away from hazardous process areas.
