SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Formosa Petrochemical Corp (FPCC) restarted its No 1 naphtha cracker on Thursday and expects on-spec material to flow later on Friday, a source at the Taiwanese company said.
"The cracker was restarted late on Thursday and we should be able to see on-spec products later today," the source said. It was shut for a turnaround last month.
Formosa’s No 1 cracker, in Mailiao on the west coast of Taiwan, is the country’s second largest and produces 700,000 tonnes/year of ethylene and 500,000 tonnes/year of propylene.
"We expect the cracker to achieve full capacity by this weekend," he said.
FPCC’s No 2 900,000 tonnes/year cracker located in Mai Liao was running normally. Its new No 3 1.2 million tonnes/year cracker will be started in 2007.
