AMSTERDAM (ICIS news)--Volatility in the prices of crude oil and bulk aromatics were expected to be the main issues discussed at the two-day 5th European Aromatics & Derivatives conference which starts on Wednesday.

Papers at the conference will look at the possibility of further developments in the forward pricing of benzene, styrene and ethylene to be used as a tool to deal with this volatility.

It will also explore the changing market situation in China and India, as the world's most populous nation is facing a deficit in many aromatics and derivatives to meet local demand.

In the Middle East, discussions will centre around planned styrene investments and possible polystyrene projects which could emerge due to freight rate concerns.

Speakers will also address issues facing shippers, the role of the broker, the impact of regulations on the aromatics business and aromatics recovery technology.

The gathering, organised by ICIS conferences and International eChem, will be held in Amsterdam on 15 and 16 November.
