SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Celanese has filed a lawsuit against Saudi International Petrochemical Co (Sipchem) and two other firms to prevent them from using its trade secrets in building and operating chemical facilities at Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, the US company said late on Thursday.

"Celanese commenced this action as part of continuing efforts to ensure that its technology and other valuable intellectual property are not misappropriated or illegally used by our competitors," John O'Dwyer, president of Celanese Chemicals, said in a statement.

Celanese’ action aimed to stop Sipchem, International Acetyls Co and International Vinyl Acetate Co from using its trade secrets, confidential information and knowhow in building and operating planned vinyl acetate monomer (VCM) and acetic acid facilities in Al Jubail.

Sipchem and the two other firms engaged in a calculated campaign to misappropriate and commercialise Celanese's confidential information, the US company said, adding that they aggressively recruited and hired former Celanese employees with intimate knowledge of its trade secrets and acetyl projects.
