TABLE: Strong bioethanol demand fuels expansions

LONDON (ICIS news)--A stream of companies is planning bioethanol projects across the globe, as environmental regulations drive up demand growth forecasts for the biofuel.

The European Commission (EC) is promoting the addition of biofuels to motor fuels in a ratio of 5.75% in the European Union (EU) by 2010, while in the US the 2005 Energy Policy Act provides incentives for the ongoing development of bioethanol.

British biofuels company Ensus said on Friday it plans to build a 400m litres/year (320,000 tonnes/year) bioethanol plant at the Wilton petrochemicals site in the north east of England. It is set to be the first bioethanol plant in the UK.

Below is a table of bioethanol projects reported recently by ICIS news. A more complete list of ethanol projects can be found in the projects section of Plants & Projects of ICIS.com.
