SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Maoming Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Chinese energy major Sinopec, has shut its high-density polyethylene (hdPE) unit on Wednesday due to technical problems, company sources said.

The company’s new 350,000 tonnes/year hdPE unit at Maoming, Guangdong province will be restarted a day or two later, the sources added.

Its other downstream units, which can produce 110,000 tonnes/year low-density PE (ldPE) and 170,000 tonnes/year hdPE, as well as its linear low-density PE (lldPE) swing line and two polypropylene (PP) lines with a total capacity of 470,000 tonnes/year, are producing normally now.

Maoming Petrochemical is currently building another 250,000 tonnes/year ldPE unit that will start up in the first quarter of 2007.
