SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Herdillia Chemicals is expected to restart its phenol-acetone plant in mid-December after a scheduled 15-day maintenance shutdown, a source close to the Indian company said on Monday.

The plant in the western state of Maharashtra can produce 36,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 20,000 tonnes/year of acetone.

The ongoing turnaround had boosted phenol spot prices as traders raised their bids due to tight supply. Spot prices gained $50/tonne to $1,350-1,370/tonne CFR (cost and freight) India by the start of December compared to levels a month earlier.

This meant that India had surpassed China as the most lucrative market in Asia. Phenol spot prices to China were traded at $1,300-1,350/tonne CFR China last week.
