SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Global Bioenergy Resources plans to start trial runs at its 36,000 tonne/year biodiesel plant in Selangor later this week, a source from the Malaysia-based producer said on Tuesday.

The company was finishing some repairs at the plant which ran into mechanical problems during initial trial runs in November, he added.

When the Malaysian ringgit (M$) 13.5m ($3.7m) plant starts up this week, it would produce about 250 tonnes/month of biodiesel from palm olein for about three months, the source said.

"After three months, when we’re satisfied, we’ll produce at 3,000 tonnes/month," he added.

Global Bioenergy, which exports its material to the European market, aims to comply with the EN 14214 European standard for biodiesel in six months.

It also planned to expand the plant’s capacity to 50,000 tonnes/year by the fourth quarter of 2007, the source said.

The company was looking to find buyers for the crude glycerine by-product, he added.

"We’re exploring the market to get good pricing from buyers, particularly in China," he said.
