Elstar Oils postpones Polish biodiesel start-up

PRAGUE (ICIS news)--Poland’s Elstar Oils has postponed the launch of its biodiesel production until the first quarter of 2007, the company confirmed on Friday.

Elstar Oils had hoped to have its plant in Malbork up and running within the fourth quarter of this year but said it had been hit by government delays in issuing biodiesel sales permits.

The initial capacity of the facility, which will utilise rapeseed-oil methyl ester (ROME), should be 50,000 tonnes/year, rising to 100,000 tonnes/year in 2008.

Meanwhile, another Polish biodiesel company, Estry Metylowe in Sycewice near Slupsk, said it was looking for Polish or international investors who would back it with capital of Zloty40m (€10.4m/$13.9m) in return for a 49% shareholding.

A company spokesman, who could only say the firm was aiming for a capacity of several hundreds of thousands of tonnes per year, added the existing investor had so far committed Zloty95m to realising the plant.
