SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Malaysia’s Future Prelude plans to build a biodiesel plant by the end of 2007, a company spokesman said on Tuesday.

The 120,000 tonne/year plant will most likely be located in Pulau Indah, Port Klang, in the state of Selangor, though the company’s board of directors is also considering two other locations in Kuantan, which is in the state of Pahang, he said.

A decision on the plant’s location is expected to be made by January or February 2007.

Future Prelude is a joint venture between four government-linked companies (GLCs) in the state of Pahang - Far East Holdings, the state’s Economic Development Corporation, LKPP and an unnamed public-listed GLC.

Far East and LKPP own palm oil plantations, which will supply the feedstock needed for the biodiesel unit, he said.

The spokesman added that regardless of the location chosen for the plant, all three of them are in close proximity to ports that could facilitate the company’s plans to export biodiesel to its target markets in Europe and Japan.
