LONDON (ICIS news)--ICI is investing $20m in a second emulsion polymerisation facility in China scheduled for completion in mid-2007, the UK-based chemicals company said on Thursday.

The plant will be based at the Songjiang Industrial Development Zone in Shanghai and will have an annual capacity of 45,000 tonnes.

The facility, which will employ 40 new staff, will serve a number of other end user markets, including ICI’s Swire paints business in China.

ICI currently has eight major facilities in China, manufacturing decorative paints, adhesives, specialty starches and electronic materials for the China market and the Asia Pacific region.

All planned additional facilities, which also include the recently announced China Technical Centre for Group R&D and a construction polymers plant, are to be completed in 2008, a company spokeswoman said.
