TORONTO (ICIS news)--Canada’s Imperial Oil said the fire at its refinery at the Sarnia petrochemicals hub in Ontario was fully extinguished on Friday morning.

The fire broke out early Thursday morning after an explosion at the refinery’s 18,000 bbl/day hydrocracker.

Apart from the hydrocracker, the 119,000 bbl/day refinery was operating normally and Imperial did not expect any near-term supply shortages as a result of the accident, it said.

The company has started investigating the cause of the accident and assessing the damage, it said.

Calgary-based Imperial is majority-owned by ExxonMobil.
