The fire broke out early Thursday morning after an explosion at the refinery’s 18,000 bbl/day hydrocracker.
Apart from the hydrocracker, the 119,000 bbl/day refinery was operating normally and Imperial did not expect any near-term supply shortages as a result of the accident, it said.
The company has started investigating the cause of the accident and assessing the damage, it said.
Calgary-based Imperial is majority-owned by ExxonMobil.
