ICIS Chemical Business Americas, formerly CMR, traces its roots back to 1871 when the publication was called Oil, Paint and Drug Reporter

Two weeks ago the Reporter editorially called attention to the fact that the cotton oil manufacturers of this country were neglecting an opprtunity to extend their foreign commerce that had been offered them by Major John M. Carson, of the Bureau of Manufactures of the Department of Commerce and Labor. In another part of this issue we publish a letter from J. W. Allison, of Ennis, Tex., who takes exception to our editorial assuming that, by inference, it charged President Bailey of the Interstate Cottonseed Crushers' Association with neglect of his duty, although the Reporter had no intention of reflecting upon any one personally.

The prosperous commercial and industrial activity of the year now closing could have no fitter index than the present issue of the Oil, Paint and Drug Reporter. As its columns have from week to week during the year relected the active current of business in the several trades of which it is the representative, so do its pages to-day present what we may fairly term an annual balance sheet, in which the prosperity of its constituency is clearly shown. The magnitude of the commercial transactions of 1881 in the United States finds no parallel in the previous history of this country.
