TORONTO (ICIS news)--The approval of Europe’s Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (Reach) initiative is good news for the chemicals testing industry, analysts at Citigroup said on Monday.

Under Reach, some 30,000 substances will have to be registered and tested, at an estimated cost of up to €4.0bn ($5.3bn) over 11 years, Citigroup said.

Much of this cost should translate into revenue for petrochemical and chemical testing and inspection firms, the analysts said.

The analysts highlighted in particular Intertek, the UK-based international testing and certification firm with some 300 laboratories around the world. Another beneficiary should include Switzerland’s SGS.
