DUBAI (ICIS News)--Saudi Arabia's Tasnee gas-based cracker will start up on schedule at the end of 2008 despite earlier hiccups, a senior official from one of the contractors of the project said on Saturday.
"The cracker is on track to start up at the end of 2008 as per scheduled," said J H Choi, general manager at Samsung Engineering's business development and marketing division.
The project has seen some delay following initial bids that were in excess of the original budgeted cost.
The Basell-Saudi joint venture 1.3m tonnes/year cracker in Al Jubail Industrial City in Saudi Arabia’s eastern Province will produce 1m tonnes/year of ethylene. The facility is part of a larger petrochemicals plant being developed by Tasnee Petrochemicals.
Samsung Engineering - which will handle the construction of the project - has teamed up with Germany's Linde, which will provide the technology.
