PRAGUE (ICIS news)--Australian-owned Central EU Biofuels Hungary Kft has been licensed to build biodiesel methyl ester and biodiesel production units in Hodmezovasarhely, south east Hungary, the local government said on Monday.

It added the company had set aside maximum capital of  Ft32bn (€124.9 billion/$161.4m) to invest in the facility, but could not yet clarify capacity expectations.

In the first stage of the project, esters would be sold to biodiesel plants in Austria and other places in Europe, while in the second stage a biodiesel refinery facility would be brought online at the site to process much of the feedstock itself, said the local government.

Initial ester production runs are scheduled for the end of 2008, with refinery trial production set for a year later.
